Indian Market Extends Gains

Momentum-based fund buying in heavyweight stocks and positive cues from global markets following a successful bond auction in Europe lifted the Indian market notably higher on Thursday ahead of the holiday weekend. Meanwhile, the market shrugged off data that showed food inflation rose for a second consecutive week.

Ahead of the Bell: Oil supplies expected to fall

The government is expected to report a 730,000-barrel drop in commercial crude oil supplies for the week ended Sept. 3, according to a survey by Platts, the energy information arm of McGraw-Hill Cos. Analysts predicted gasoline stockpiles will decrease by 820,000 barrels, distillate stocks _ including diesel and heating oil _ will increase by 940,000 barrels and refinery utilization will dip by 0.62 percentage point to 86.38 percent.
