Prominent Human Rights Lawyer Held In Iran

A prominent Iranian human rights lawyer is being held in solitary confinement at Tehran's notorious Evin prison after she was arrested on security charges, according to her lawyer. Jafari said Sotoodeh called from Evin prison on Wednesday and said she was in "solitary confinement," and that the authorities had also seized personal computers and documents from her home and office.

The Energy Department on Thursday is expected to report an increase of 56 billion cubic feet to 60 billion cubic feet in natural gas inventories for the week ended Sept. 3, according to a survey of analysts by Platts, the energy information arm of McGraw-Hill Cos. Natural gas inventories held in underground storage in the lower 48 states increased by 54 billion cubic feet to about 3.106 trillion cubic feet for the week that ended Aug. 27. The level was 5.8 percent more than the five-year average, the government said.

Pound Falls Further Against Franc As BoE Keeps Rate Unchanged At 0.5%

As widely expected, the Bank of England decided to leave its interest rate unchanged at 0.5%. Amid the announcement at 7:00 am ET Thursday, the pound weakened further against the Swiss franc, but it was little changed against the dollar, yen and the euro. As of now, the pound is worth 1.5407 against the dollar, 0.8262 against the euro, 1.5590 against the yen and 128.93 against the yen.
